Garmin 3750 - A bit too fragile. . .
I bought my Garmin 3750 a month ago through Amazon...and loved it's compact sleek design. The directions it gives seem to make you take either the long routes or the inconvenient routes where you have to cross busy intersections that have no stop lights... but that isn't really my big complaint.
I read someone's review here about how they dropped their Garmin once and it wasn't working after that. I thought maybe this was an isolated case--that it was his bad luck, so I disregarded it and bought it anyway. Well today I dropped the Garmin on the floor for the first time, there's a slight chip on the corner, otherwise, it looked pretty good still. But then I realized that I couldn't turn it on....oh noes! Yes, it was broken. This thing is way too fragile. I'm so mad that it takes a mere 1 drop on the floor to render this expensive 300$ item useless. I've contacted/emailed Garmin about this but I didn't get a response back yet. Their website says to wait 3 days for a response. -_-

This is our third Garmin Nuvi and by far the best. Easy to use. Highly recommended
Helps you get lost!
We were all excited when we got our GPS but quickly grew dissilusioned. This GPS loses satellite reception at all times. First day we were using it, it started to recalculate our route all of a sudden, even though we had not failed following its directions! So we found ourselves in the middle of an unknown area and the GPS kept recalculating! Also, the maps are not that accurate. When visiting the Berkshires we asked it to take us to Mt. Greylock and indicated an unpaved restricted access road, instead of the main paved road that leads straight to the park visitors center. We are so thankful we have an Iphone. I will never leave home with this GPS only. I DEEPLY REGRET BUYING THIS PRODUCT. It looks amazing, the screen is great but it fails to do what it is meant to.
thoughts on a week-old unit
This is the first GPS unit that I have owned. I have used a very old Garmin in the past briefly, so that is the only comparison that I have.
I initially wanted the 3760 for the lifetime traffic, but I've read how unreliable that it is and that you have to deal with advertisements on the screen - nothing is "free", remember. Anyway, I settled on the 3750 because of the above concerns and it fit my price range better.
After a week of ownership, I am posting my thoughts. I'll update this review if anything changes.
Pros:
- Very intuitive menus. Even a caveman can operate it.
Cons:
- The built in speaker is weak, but it gets slightly better (louder) when using the Garmin mount that has it's own built in speaker. Then again, I've got the volume at 100% just so that I can hear the voice on a hot summer day in my car with the a/c fan crankin'.
- The touch screen can be too sensitive at times. At others, I have to "mash" my finger into the screen in order to get the display to accept a change in function. Sometimes, I can see the button on the screen "flash" as if it has registered the push of the button, but nothing happens until I hit it again. It makes me wonder if I should return this. I am thinking that a clear cover on top of the screen would make the touch feature less sensitive even though it would protect the screen. I'll take my chances.
- This unit is fragile. It could easily slip out of your hand and break. I found a great semi-rigid case that fits perfectly, it's the Lowepro Volta 30.
- Battery life when the screen is on is about one hour. I was disappointed with that. I think that there is a way to turn off the screen when running on internal battery power, it may even be automatic, but my screen never shut off. Maybe that happens in pedestrian mode?
Ideas for improvement:
I'm not sure what the higher end models do with the Bluetooth connectivity, but I'd love for this GPS to broadcast into my Bluetooth earpiece so that the GPS "voice" doesn't disturb anyone else in the car if they might be sleeping. Does anyone know if the other Garmin models do this?
It would also be cool to hear the voice interrupt my radio so that I could listen to music and then hear the GPS directions as they are spoken.
Dead on Arrival
There is not much I can say about this product. It arrived dead. The GPS wouldn't turn on and it wouldn't take a charge. I tried calling Garmin Tech Support and gave up when they said the wait was 30 minutes. I'm glad Amazon has such an easy return policy.

While the Garmin 3750 is an entry model in the 3700 series, that does not negate the impeccable design of this exceptional GPS device. The Garmin Nuvi 3750 is one of the most innovative GPS systems. The Nuvi 3750 is part of the 3700 series crafted by Garmin, and you will find that the Garmin 3750 is slimmer than its predecessors. The Garmin Nuvi 3750 has a screen that measures 3.81 inches in width by 2.25 inches in height. The screen has a 4.3 inch diagonal measurement. The dimensions of the device measure 4.8 inches in width by 2.9 inches in height by a surprising .35 inches in depth. The display on the Garmin 3750 offers up a resolution equivalent to 800 x 480p, and the display screen is made of glass. It has a dual orientation, and it is supported by a white backlight and WVGA color TFT technologies. The device is powered by a lithium ion battery which can be charged to last up to four hours without a need for recharging. In all, the Nuvi 3750 weighs a mere four ounces! Garmin Nuvi 3750 Design
The Garmin Nuvi 3750 is designed much like the latest iPhone models; it has a touch screen display for operation, it is ultra thin, and the outer casing is eye catching and attractive. You can orient the visuals on the device to be presented vertically or horizontally: whatever works best for you. Further, since the device is so small and slender, it certainly has tremendous portability. The Garmin 3750 is GPS enabled, however the device is incapable of floating, it is not waterproof, and it is not compatible with marine software applications.
The Garmin Nuvi 3750 is equipped with a receiver that is highly sensitive, it has a USB PC interface, and it is available in a RoHS version. It comes with North American maps loaded onto the GPS system, and you can put additional maps onto the device to expand its functions. The Garmin 3750 is street map and topographic map compatible, but it is not compatible with Bluechart g2 maps. You can use a microSD data card with the device and the device is equipped with a solid state, internal, embedded memory. You get 1000 favorites/waypoints with the Garmin Nuvi 3750.

The Garmin Nuvi 3750 offers you nuRoute technologies so that you can plan ahead for traffic conditions. The nuRoute offerings are combined with trafficTrends features so that you can choose the fastest routes based on current traffic. The device is also outfitted with Garmin Connect™ features, and it has a gorgeous widescreen display. You get 100 routes with the device, and the device has voice prompts which make finding your way all the easier. The speaker on the Garmin 3750 is located internally, and the device announces the names of streets as well as calculated distances to various points to your destination.
With the Nuvi 3750 you can choose your routes based on off road options, the shortest distance, or the fastest route times. You can plan routes based on no tolls and you can even use the device to plan trips that avoid certain highways. The device allows you to configure your own points of interest, but it offers no Bluetooth® technologies for hands free calling management. The Garmin Nuvi 3750 lacks an FM traffic receiver, and it is not compatible with XM® Navtraffic or MSN® Direct features.
The Garmin Nuvi 3750 is absent of any speech recognition technologies so you cannot control the device via speech commands. It is also absent of three dimensional map views, but the device offers you an automated sorting feature so you can choose direct route planning options. The Garmin Nuvi 3750 is wonderful for the car or on foot but it is not marine or motorcycle friendly. You get lane assist so your driving transitions are smoother and you are well prepared for every situation. The Garmin 3750 offers a speed limit indicator so you can always keep an eye on your speed, but the device lacks a lifetime traffic feature. The device is sold with everything you need to use the GPS in your car with ease: you get the dashboard disk, the suction cup mount, and the charging cables.
The Garmin Nuvi 3750 gives you Where Am I? features for locating the fueling stations, police stations, medical facilities and other destinations that are within the immediate proximity. You will not lose your way when you have the Garmin 3750 at your finger tips. The device also has the convenient car locator function when you mount the device to your windshield: this makes finding your parked car a lot easier in busy locations.
While the Garmin Nuvi 3750 lacks an audio book player or an mp3 player, you can still view your photographs on the Garmin 3750.
